Blackberries in a Country Carrier Bag

No waste here, when you forget your shopping bag in the country you have to think on your feet, a little weaving goes a long way and the Blackberries arrived home safe!

Beach Bum

Secluded beaches, clear warm water, yes, that is 'Lac de Vassiviere' on a warm sunny August day. Chris & Joanne took a little time out from a very busy schedule to relax on the beach after a lazy lunch beside the lake, it was appreciated and we deserved it.

Alsacien Chicken with Summer Cabbage

Joanne was busy in the kitchen this morning preparing a wonderful recipe from the Alsace. Chicken with summer cabbage and cumin, what makes this dish really special is the fact that the chicken were reared here at 'La Petite Maison' and the cabbage and onions were picked fresh from the garden, as Chris always says, it doesn't get much better than this.

Schools Out

Jess and Bonny wait patiently for the school bell to ring to indicate the end of French language class. They are both doing well and are now bilingual, enjoying lessons in the sunshine can however be distracting, especially when they get a whiff of pheasant or hare. Lessons have now finished for this year and they are both looking forward to the opening day of the Chasse on the 9th September.

Lazy Days

This is how we fish in France, picture postcard views, isolated lakes with big fish. Chris's bed chair perfectly placed in dappled shade, he didn't catch anything on this outing, the water levels were low and the temperature was in the high 30's. Did it matter? not at all, he caught up on some shuteye ha ha.

Village Bread Oven

Michel, Colette, Laurs & Danny have lovingly restored their bread oven that has been in the family for  generations. Look at the delicious flans and breads that were cooked last weekend. We can only describe the smell coming from the traditional wood fired oven as, well, it can't be described, you will just have to imagine !
Joanne and Chris were having a Pizza for dinner and you've guessed it, in it went and yes, it was truly scrumptious. This is the way to cook, outdoors, wood fires, it's hard to describe but it almost puts you in touch with nature, very special!

Wysteria second flourish

Sorry to those folks who follow this blog on a regular basis, the last post was on the 17th July and since then, nothing. Selfish I know, especially for those of you living in the uk, but we have been enjoying the glorious sunshine here in the Creuse. We have also been very busy with the chambres D'hotes, we have met some lovely people this year, it is truly wonderful work ! The Manor house renovation has started to take shape and we have a lounge and bedroom that is comfortable enough for when we sell 'La Petite Maison' and go full steam ahead. The Wysteria has flowered for the second time this year and looks amazing, you can't smell the scent from the flowers but trust me, it's amazing.
